Its counter part is Chart-junk. Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infovis-wiki.net\/index.php\/Data-Ink_Ratio\" title=\"InfoVis\" target=\"_blank\">Infovis-wiki<\/a> for more information. <\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Matrix graphics &#8211; We did not get to discuss this in class. Here I refer you to Jacques Bertin&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/noppa.aalto.fi\/noppa\/kurssi\/25455\/materiaali\/25455_matrix_theory_of_graphics_2.pdf\">Theory of Matrix Graphics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sysrep.aalto.fi\/lilydiaz\/files\/2015\/01\/daigramMinard.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/sysrep.aalto.fi\/lilydiaz\/files\/2015\/01\/daigramMinard.gif\" alt=\"daigramMinard\" width=\"705\" height=\"497\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One of the most famous statistical graphics ever created is Charles Joseph Minard&#8217;s depiction of the <a href=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/2\/29\/Minard.png\">advance and retreat of Napoleon&#8217;s army<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>10:30 \u2013 11:00\tCoffee break<\/p>\n<p>11:00 \u2013 12:00\tOrganizing the work to be done<\/p>\n<p>The theme that we would like to work on is: <strong>Development and political geography of cloud computing<\/strong>.<br \/>\nAs your assignment last week, you were asked to read the following article in preparation for the course: Jaeger, Paul T., Jimmy Lin, Justin M. Grimes &amp; Shannon M. Simmons, <a href=\"http:\/\/firstmonday.org\/ojs\/index.php\/fm\/article\/view\/2456\/2171\">&#8220;Where is the Cloud?&#8221;<\/a>, <strong>First Monday<\/strong>, Volume 14, Number 5 &#8211; 4 May 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Today we also looked at several videos. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J9LK6EtxzgM\" title=\"Changes to computer thinking\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>\u2022 Changes to computer thinking<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; with Stephen Fry<br \/>\nThe video gives you a fast forward introduction to changing paradigms in information communications technologies (ICT). It introduces to you the notion of ICT as a <strong>utility<\/strong> that is part of our <strong>infrastructure<\/strong>.(Note that this is a commercially sponsored video.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-79uIRQiAFM\" title=\"How BIG is Google video\"><strong>\u2022 How BIG is Google?<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; This video  by Cold Fustion provides you with an idea regarding the scale of operations of Google, a company that is one of the drivers of Cloud Computing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PBx7rgqeGG8\"><strong>\u2022 Inside Google&#8217;s Data Center<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; This video  by CBS provides you with a view of what it is like inside of these Data Centers.<\/p>\n<p>Abowd and Mynatt noted: &#8220;There is more to context than position and identity. Context-aware systems need to be able to incorporate knowledge about time, history, other people (besides the &#8216;user&#8217;) as well as our environment. The <strong>5 W&#8217;s<\/strong> can also be used when carrying on research. For the purposes of our research the <strong>5 W&#8217;s<\/strong> include <\/p>\n<p><strong>Who<\/strong> &#8211; is involved in the activity?<br \/>\n<strong>What<\/strong> is the focus of the activity?<br \/>\n<strong>Where<\/strong> &#8211; is the location? Human beings describe this in different ways including physical coordinates but also in symbolic terms.<br \/>\n<strong>When<\/strong> &#8211; is it happening? It was an opportunity to show the wonderful work done by students during the class I gave at Tshinghua University. <\/p>\n<p>Assignment: &#8220;WHEN&#8221; has it happened?
